CNBC Squawk Box Tackles Multi-Billion Dollar Enterprise Phishing Problem, Taps PhishMe CEO Rohyt Belani for Expert Opinion

NEW YORK, NEW YORK — This morning, CNBC Squawk Box anchors tackled the enterprise phishing scourge with the assistance of PhishMe CEO and recognized cybersecurity thought leader, Rohyt Belani. As pointed out by anchor Andrew Ross Sorkin at the beginning of the segment, phishing attacks are responsible for more than 90 percent of the major data breaches taking place today and were cybercriminals’ primary attack vector for recent compromises at the OPM and Anthem.

Kicking off the conversation, Belani was called on to comment on how phishing scammers have managed to fleece corporate America for more than $1.2 billion this year by fooling everyone from CFOs to CEOs with fraudulent requests for wire transfers. As a CEO, Belani was highly familiar with the ongoing attacks, as he was recently targeted but was fortunately able to repel the attempt.

There was a great deal of synergy between Belani and the anchors–scammers have targeted all three via emails claiming to contain attachments from printers and other sources. To further help educate the audience, Squawk Box leveraged Belani’s expertise to provide viewers with some simple tips on how to avoid email attacks.

In response to anchor Joe Kernen’s question about whether or not the band Phish will play at the next PhishMe social event … well … that remains to be seen.
