Attorney, policy professional, and privacy and security expert will serve as a panelist for the RSA session, “Defend Forward: Moving Toward Coordinated Active Cyber Response”
Leesburg, Va. – May 6, 2021 – Cofense, the leading provider of phishing detection and response (PDR) solutions, today announced that the company’s General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer, Shane McGee, will speak at the 2021 RSA Conference. McGee will serve as a panelist for the session, “Defend Forward: Moving Toward Coordinated Active Cyber Response” (LAW-T14). With more than 20 years of experience helping security and technology companies navigate the legal and policy environments they operate in, McGee will bring a unique perspective on the intersection of law, privacy and security.
The panel, set to take place on May 18 at 12:45pm PT, will focus on “defend forward”, the unclassified and publicly communicated cyber policy of the US Government that involves taking the cyber response to the adversaries. Panelists will explore a variety of improvements needed in information sharing and public/private partnerships, along with clear rules of engagement for active cyber response. Key learning objectives and takeaways for attendees include:
- Increase your knowledge of the concept of defend forward, how its techniques can be used to increase the cost to a threat actor, and why that can be an important part of your cyber strategy.
- Understand the interplay between the public and private sector in implementing a defend forward strategy.
- Realize that active cyber response can be an important component in a defend forward strategy.
“The global coronavirus pandemic reminds us that, even during the worst of times, our adversaries never rest. More than ever, we need proactive security strategies like those offered by Cofense,” said McGee. “I’m looking forward to sharing a virtual stage with Randy Sabett, Anand Shah, Andrew Epstein, and Kimberly Peretti and discussing the concept of defend forward.”
As General Counsel, McGee is responsible for all of Cofense’s legal affairs. He is a member of Cofense’s executive team, and acts as a strategic business partner by providing advice and oversight in several areas including privacy, compliance, and ethics. In addition to his privacy credentials, Shane is also a Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP). Prior to Cofense, McGee served as Chief Privacy Officer at FireEye. Previously, McGee was General Counsel for Mandiant where he managed legal affairs and negotiated and finalized the acquisition by FireEye.
